Hilo falls to
Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. >> Oscar Lopez and Brad Harper each belted their 14th doubles of the season and Fresno State held off the University of Hawaii-Hilo, 4-3, in a Western Athletic Conference baseball game at Beiden Field.

The Bulldogs (32-19, 15-11 WAC) and Vulcans (5-33, 3-21) complete their series today. On Saturday, Fresno State scored six runs in the eighth to win the series opener, 10-3.

Yesterday, the Bulldogs scored three runs in the fourth then added what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the fifth.

Hilo took a 1-0 lead in the second on Darren Chu's sacrifice fly that scored Nalei Sooto.

The Vulcans scored two runs in the top of the seventh to close to 4-3 on Chu's two-run double that scored Billy Rayle and Sooto.

But the Bulldogs got out of the inning with a double play, ending Hilo's threat.
