Fly with dragons
'Ohi'a Productions will be holding general auditions for Lisa Matsumoto's "On Dragonfly Wings" from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, and noon to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Leeward Community College band room.Auditioners are required to bring a recent headshot and resume. Prepare one joke or short monologue, and a selection of one song (one verse and one chorus) no longer than one minute.
Songs should be selected to show vocal ability and quality or humor and character. A karaoke tape is preferred. If singing with piano accompaniment, please provide sheet music in your key. Wear appropriate shoes and clothes.
Call backs will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, and 7 to 10 p.m. Monday.

"On Dragon Fly Wings" is about Wendy, a cheerful young waterbug who faces an unknown transformation.
The musical is adapted from the book "Wailana the Waterbug," inspired by Alana Dung, who was 3 when she succumbed to leukemia. Her fight raised awareness of the disease and resulted in more than 50 bone marrow matches worldwide and a research foundation that bears her name.
Time to tango
Florencia Taccetti of Buenos Aires, one of the treasures of Argentina, will teach a workshop in Argentine tango May 5 and 6 at the Honolulu Club."For our local followers of tango, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from one of the best in the world," said George Garcia, the Honolulu Club's resident dance instructor.
There will be several 90-minute classes offered beginning at 2 p.m. both days. The cost is $20 per class; $10 for the milonga, or tango dance party. An all-class pass is also available for $100.

Take a hike for charity
Visitor Industry Charity Walk: "Pictures in Paradise" is the theme of this year's event in which walkers stroll through Waikiki, supposedly getting exercise, but in the process eating foods at 19 checkpoints. Games and entertainment are also provided, celebrating Hawaiian images in film and on television.The walk begins at Ala Moana Park at 6 a.m. May 19. It ends back at the park with a plate lunch and concert featuring Sean Na'auao, Colon and DisGuyz. Call 923-0407.

Treasures from the Mediterranean: Kusuma Cooray teaches a class in healthy cooking, 6:30 p.m. Friday, Kapiolani Community College, Ohia Building. Saigon sauces: A Saigon Cafe is introducing a line of bottled sauces, including tamarind vinaigrette and a vegetarian sweet and sour dipping sauce. The sauces are used on some of the most popular menu items at the restaurant. They debut Saturday at the Maui Agricultural Trade Show and Sampling, where Jennifer Nguyen will demonstrate their use and offer samples. Call 243-9560.
