Live coverage of the 38th annual Merrie Monarch Festival runs today through Saturday on KITV/ABC. Each day's program begins at 6 p.m., with the Miss Aloha Hula competition today; kahiko, or traditional hula, tomorrow; and auana, or modern hula, on Saturday. Muppets return
Muppets Elmo and Zoe invite Hawaii's children to join their friendship club as an all-new "Sesame Street Live" musical debuts at the Blaisdell Center May 10, with 14 shows scheduled through May 20.Tickets, at $10 for opening night, and $12 and $14 on other nights, are on sale now for the production that has the colorful, hairy Sesame Street gang building a giant clubhouse and staging a circus.
Children will be entertained by the razzle dazzle of lights, music and sound effect while taking in the production's message about teamwork and patience. Showtimes are:

Start stringing
If you know your wili from your haku, the city has a contest for you. Enter the 74th annual Lei Day Festival lei contests taking place at Queen Kapiolani Park on May 1.The adult lei winners will receive cash prizes. The three categories are hat lei, neck lei and theme lei. The Mayor's Grand Prize will be awarded to the most outstanding lei.
Deliver leis between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. to a receiving area near the park bandstand. Entries will be judged then exhibited to the public between 12:30 and 6 p.m. For information, call Barbara Lowe at 733-7357.
Youths under 17 are also invited to register at 3:30 p.m. for the Youth Lei Contest that begins at 4 p.m. There will be cash prizes for winners in five age categories. For information, call Sheila Wensel at 259-8926.
