Ho‘okipa canceled

The good news is that the Ho'okipa fund-raiser at Kapiolani Community College sold out, which means a lot of money going to culinary programs at the school. The bad news is, it had to be canceled because of the University of Hawaii faculty strike.

The event will be rescheduled for the fall semester, and all reservations and payments will be held until then. Anyone who would like a refund should call the school's development officer, Sami Takai, 734-9570.

The event had been scheduled for Friday at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.

Many items are not on L'Uraku's menu, such as grilled quail on baby spinach with bacon vinaigrette and gouda cheese, soy-braised veal cheeks and "mushi-sushi," a steamed sushi with unagi and red-wine sauce. Television personality Emme Tommimbang and master sommelier Chuck Furuya will emcee. Cost is $65, including tax and tip. Valet parking available. Call 955-0552.

Dine Out for a Change: April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and a group of restaurants is participating in a program April 26 to raise awareness of domestic violence and raise funds for the Sex Abuse Treatment Center.
