Baha'i meet to celebrate their faith's beginnings
Members of the Hawaii Baha'i community will gather in Waialua from 4 to 9 p.m. next Saturday, April 21, to celebrate the founding of their faith in 1863.The First Day of Ridvan commemorates the beginning of a 12-day period when Baha'u'llah, the founder of the faith, proclaimed his mission as God's messenger.
He taught that God is one and all religions are true. His teachings about the oneness of the human race, the equality of the sexes and the desirability of an open society without boundaries led to his banishment from his native Persia.
Members of the 27 Baha'i communities in the state will elect their nine-member administrative body at the celebration, which will include a potluck lunch and musical entertainment. For more information, call 637-3173.
