Faith page welcomes
your news and views

Church projects make good features
and calendar items -- but please
inform us early

Welcome. Participation. Message.

We've used those categories as an informal yardstick in visits to places of worship since we launched this column four weeks ago.

We hope those ideas will be a theme for our "Keeping the Faith" page.

The response we have had so far underscores how important their faith, spiritual philosophy, belief system or religion is to readers.

So let us hear from you. We welcome your ideas for stories. We want to know about your programs and projects.

What is your congregation doing for the poor or seniors? Do you have a building project? Is your youth group shining? Is this a significant holy day or anniversary?

Please keep in mind our world of deadlines. Any number of churches responded to our Holy Week story and calendar last week -- but too late for inclusion.

We need an item for our calendar at least a week before the Saturday it will be listed. And sooner is better.

An irate e-mail this week scolded that we did not include his ethnic group's beliefs in the holy day wrap-up. We are interested. Give us a call. Don't assume we know what you know.

Contributors to our "On Faith" column have explored the Buddhist beliefs of the families of Ehime Maru victims and the joint effort by several churches against legalizing gambling in Hawaii.

We seek participation in this weekly feature by clergy and lay leaders.

We hope they will bring a spiritual or philosophical perspective to issues in our community and problems we face in our everyday lives.

And we're planning on taking in the "View from the Pew" from the far corners of the islands in the weeks ahead. We'll be seeing you.
