Wahine split on road

The University of Hawaii softball team split a doubleheader against No. 18 Pacific yesterday at Stockton, Calif.

The Wahine ended the Tigers' home winning streak at 20 games, including 18 this season, with a 4-2 victory in the second game. Pitcher Desiree Duran (9-4) earned the win for Hawaii (32-13) with a five-hitter.

The Tigers won the first game, 9-1.

Gabriel resigns

Garrett Gabriel has resigned as boys' basketball coach and teacher at Maryknoll High School.

Gabriel, a former Maryknoll basketball and Pac-Five football all-state player and University of Hawaii football standout, compiled a 9-27 record in three Interscholastic League of Honolulu seasons.

"It was just time to move on," he said. "There are no hard feelings."

Gabriel said he wanted to devote more time to raising his family and post-graduate college studies.
