Sea Warriors sweep CSS in non-conference clash
The Hawaii Pacific baseball team won two games on the road yesterday, beating host Cal State-Stanislaus 9-5 and 7-5 in non-conference play.During the first game, Sea Warriors Tyrus Matsumoto and Ikaika DuPont blasted back-to-back home runs in the second inning. HPU's 9-3 lead after six innings was safe as Stanislaus mustered only two runs.
In the second game, Jeremiah Yacap of HPU added to the home run count with a 3-run shot of his own. After HPU surged to a 6-0 lead, the Sea Warriors added one more run in the seventh to make it 7-2. Stanislaus managed three more runs but HPU improved its record to 15-17.
UH-Hilo perfect again, wins another tournament
The Hawaii-Hilo women's tennis team blanked Cal Poly Pomona, 9-0, at the Xenia Anastasiadou Memorial Tennis Tournament yesterday.In singles play, Nathalia Jung defeated Losaline Mafileo (6-3, 6-0), Lori Sakakihara beat Lisa Jones (6-4, 6-1), Lara Hornbuckle defeated Pricelle De Vera (7-5, 6-1), Francine Amoa beat Julie Manning (6-0, 6-0), Ursula Steffany defeated Winter Melanson (6-4, 7-6) and Annie Pham beat Jacklyn McGaughy (6-3, 6-2).
In doubles, it was Amoa and Jung over De Vera and Mafileo (8-6), Hornbuckle and Sakakihara over Jones and Manning (8-4), and Sheena Lani and Pham over Melanson and Scanlan (8-5).
Hawaii-Hilo pitching sweeps Chaminade
Chaminade fell victim to a sweep by the Hawaii-Hilo softball team yesterday, 4-0 and 4-1.Lady Vulcan pitchers Kristine Kahoalii and Taysha Anderson both pitched a pair of 3-hitters. Anderson won her sixth straight game and improved her earned run average to 1.54.
