Let’s be more
careful out there

About 8:30 on Wednesday morning, the driver of a light brown van ran a red light headed Ewa on Ala Moana Boulevard at Cooke Street -- right in front of a police car waiting on Cooke Street.

The police officer took no notice and blithely went on his way headed makai on Cooke Street. Asked why the officer didn't pursue the errant driver, a spokeswoman for the police department said the vehicle in question was a maintenance wagon driven by a garage mechanic, not a patrol car driven by a police officer. But she said patrol officers would be reminded to be on the lookout for such traffic violations.

OK, fair enough. But it would have been nice to nail a reckless driver who could have hit the police wagon.
