New spot for ads,
hafspot.com

THE Hawaii Advertising Federation now has a Web site. "It hasn't even been officially launched yet," said site creator and federation board member Marianne Martin.

The site, at www.hafspot.com, will be announced to the advertising community with a mailing this month.

She said the federation's "membership committee is really excited about it -- because it directly enables members to put their e-mail and URL link right there so people can go immediately to their company Web site.

"The Web site's going to help expose what we do, the services that we offer, and spread the word, locally and on the mainland as well," Martin said.

Martin is a producer and does account services for Tsunami Marketing on Kauai. The company is part of Kauai-based Graphic Communication. Tsunami Marketing's (read: Martin's) work to create the site is donated.

Move over Ronald

The familiar icon of McDonald's restaurants is not being replaced -- he just has a new boss. Veronica Kaneko is the new managing director of McDonald's Restaurants of Hawaii, the top corporate position in the region which includes Hawaii, Guam and Saipan.

Kaneko's 24-year golden arches career started with her first title -- crewmember, at the Pearlridge restaurant. She was later promoted to store manager and on up the line to senior operations consultant, operations manager, and senior operations manager in 1999. That year Kaneko was presented with the President's Award, corporate recognition reserved for the top 1 percent of employees.

She is not McDonald's first female managing director. That distinction belongs to Donna Abreu, who now owns and operates the Mililani and Mililani Mauka restaurants.

Ironically, one of Kaneko's store manager assignments was at the Mililani McDonald's.
