A fund-raising drive is under way to replace a stolen sign that leads visitors to Haleiwa.

Mayor Jeremy Harris announced Friday he will lead a drive to raise funds to replace the hand-carved sign that disappeared earlier this month.

The sign is about 5 feet by 5 feet in size and was reported missing on March 19. It cost about $5,000.

"The sign is very important for bringing much-needed business to the shops and restaurants in Haleiwa town," Harris said. "I am asking for contributions so a replacement sign can be put up as soon as possible."

Donations can be sent to Haleiwa Main Street, P.O. Box 878, Haleiwa, HI 96712. Checks should be made payable to Haleiwa Main Street.
