Star-BulletinAbout half the stadium, or approximately 10,000 seats, are still available, according to Marcia and Lenny Klompus, who handled ticket sales on Maui for the past month.
"It's my understanding that about 2,000 tickets were purchased by the season-ticket holders, so those seats were gone before we started over here," Hula Bowl executive director Marcia Klompus said yesterday.
"The number of tickets sold also includes 2,250 that were set aside for Montana."
That means approximately 6,000 tickets have been sold on Maui over the past few weeks. The remaining tickets are mostly in the end zone, although some sideline seats remain.
"There isn't a bad seat in the house, that's what makes it so good," Marcia Klompus said. "We have all the seats pretty much sold on the press box side. There are seats left in Section E. There's also one section left on the opposite side.
"I know people are figuring the seats will be there because they have time. But they probably shouldn't think that way."
Lenny Klompus said he doesn't believe there will be any walk-up for this nonconference game. In his mind, it will be sold out long before Sept. 8.
"Once the tickets go on sale across the state, you have to figure it's only a matter of time before they're gone," Lenny Klompus said. "We've been busy every day, some more than others. We figure that all the seats, including those in the corporate village, will total out to about 20,000."
With Iowa State dropping off the schedule because Hawaii's payout was too low, this is the only game in the island chain until the last weekend in September.
Hawaii convinced Brigham Young to fill the open spot, but that game isn't until December.
