Elliman sings
in church choir

Question: Whatever happened to Yvonne Elliman?

Answer: The local girl who played Mary Magdalene in the 1970s rock musical "Jesus Christ Superstar" is now "singing for the church choir" in Malibu, Calif., where she is happily married and has two children, says promoter Tom Moffat.

Moffat last spoke with Elliman before Christmas, he said.

Elliman was the only artist from Hawaii to have a No. 1 hit, "If I Can't Have You," in the Billboard Book of Top 40 Hits in 1978, Moffat recalled.

She also traveled with Eric Clapton's band in the 1970s and recorded, "Hello, Stranger," according to Moffat.

In a recent note to Moffat, Elliman said she was thinking of taking guitar lessons so she could finally play an electric guitar of hers that has been gathering dust.

She also joked about the promoter booking her incognito if she were to start her career up again.
