freshman scientistEno won a $3,000 scholarship in the Discovery Young Scientist Challenge in Washington, D.C.
He was selected as one of 40 national finalists for the challenge because of his project in the Hawaii State Science and Engineering Fair, a Hawaii Academy of Science program.
During tomorrow's school science assembly with Discovery Communications, Eno will receive more awards and participate in a demonstration of science activities.
He will be presented with $1,000 worth of free services, including one year of Roadrunner service, one year of standard cable service and various items.
He will assist Steve "Jake" Jacobs, the leading Discovery Young Student Challenge judge and "Wizard-in-Training" to Mr. Wizard, "the world's most recognizable science teacher," in demonstrating science using everyday items.
Eno's project in last year's state science fair was titled "Phytoremediation of Hydrocarbon Contaminated Soil."
He entered the national contest while in eighth grade at Iao Intermediate School.
He will appear in a two-part Discovery Science special, "The Discovery Young Scientist Challenge 2000," airing at 2 p.m. on April 30 and May 1 on Oceanic Cable's digital channel 337.
