Campbell's secret hearing opposed
The Honolulu Star-Bulletin and KITV-4 are opposing the Estate of James Campbell's request to hold a secret hearing on trust affairs. In court papers filed yesterday, the Star-Bulletin and KITV asked Probate Judge Colleen Hirai to deny the $2 billion estate's petition to seal court proceedings scheduled for today, saying the hearing involves matters of widespread public interest. The news organizations said the Campbell Estate's petition to seal today's court proceedings was itself filed under seal. However, the Star-Bulletin and KITV said the hearing involves charges by the estate's trustees that its former law firm Ashford & Wriston committed legal malpractice. The local media previously reported the estate sued Ashford & Wriston after a state judge reversed a multimillion dollar arbitration ruling in favor of the trust.
