Officials closed Radford High School this morning after 25 student and two cafeteria workers were taken to area hospitals after exposure to a noxious substance this morning, the fire department said.

Eight students said they experienced a itchy throat and rashes at about 8:30 this morning.

The eight students who experienced symptoms were taken to Tripler Hospital.

The other students were taken to other hospitals for observation, said fire department spokesman Richard Soo said.

The fire department hazardous materials team responded but they were unable to detect any chemicals in the air around the cafeteria when they arrived.
