Ball, named the tournament's most valuable pitcher, helped her own cause by driving in two runs in the six-inning contest.
The most valuable player award went to Pacific's Estee Okumura, a Punahou School graduate, who led all batters in average (.688), hits (11), runs (8) and total bases (22).
The Wahine (19-8) earned a spot in the title game with a 3-1 semifinal victory over Loyola Marymount.
Also named to the all-tournament team were Hawaii's Natalie Gonzales, Stacey Porter, Stacie Hirano, Tyree Woodruff, Trisha Ramos and Desiree Duran.
Also named were catcher Shannon Goebel and infielder Bridget Maxwell from Western Illinois; and Loyola Marymount's infielder Kim Bisset and outfielder Anna Trauenicht.
Schroers steps down
Long-time Iolani School varsity wrestling coach Carl Schroers announced he was stepping down yesterday, with the position going to his assistant Yoshi Honda.Schroers, who will continue to serve as the Raiders' athletic director, said he will coach at the intermediate level and serve as an assistant to Honda.
Under Schroers, Iolani won 11 state championships, including seven in a row between 1988-94.
Honda, a three-time state champion at Radford High School, went on to wrestle at Syracuse and Nebraska.
Vulcans sweep a pair
Kalei Robia scored the winning run on an error in the bottom of the 10th as Hawaii-Hilo edged Wisconsin-Parkside, 2-1, in the first game of a doubleheader at the Hilo softball field yesterday.The Vulcans completed the sweep with a 4-2 win in the second game. The teams meet again for a twinbill at 2 p.m. today.
