Salute to sukiyaki

Star-Bulletin

A cast-iron pot full of sukiyaki -- warm with a slightly sweet broth -- that's comfort food, Japanese style.

The Plantation Cafe at the Ala Moana Hotel pays tribute to this classic dish during a Sukiyaki Festival, through March 24.

The restaurant has brought in two chefs whose takes on sukiyaki reflect the differing styles of Tokyo and Osaka. Chef Nozomu Iwasaki is from Kisoji Kukiyaki and Shabu Shabu Restaurant in Tokyo; chef Kenichi Mizutani of the Nadaman restaurant chain is known for his Osaka-style cooking.

Lunch during the festival is $11.99 for chicken and $13.99 for beef. Dinner is $13.99 for chicken and $15.99 for beef. Sukiyaki will also be added to the Friday and Saturday dinner buffets, $22.50
