HILO - Jose Cruz homered, doubled and singled in five trips to the plate, scoring three runs and driving in two to lead Rice past Hawaii-Hilo, 11-3, last night in a Western Athletic Conference baseball game at Wong Stadium. Powerful Owls

The Owls, 15-3 overall and unbeaten in five WAC games, put the game away with a five-run ninth inning keyed by A.J. Porfirio's three-run homer.
Johnny Dudoit went 3-for-4 for the Vulcans (3-16, 2-9 WAC), who collected nine hits and drew seven walks but stranded 14 base runners.
Keola Park and Nalei Sooto each had two hits for UHH.
Rice's Jon Skaggs pitched the first six innings to earn his fourth victory without a loss. Philip Pride blanked the Vulcans the rest of the way for his first save.
Zeb Watts (0-3), the first of five Hilo pitchers, took the loss.
