Daniel "Nane" Alejandrez, director of Barrios Unidos in Santa Cruz, will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday at Church of the Crossroads.
The inaugural of a lecture series on "Peace, Justice and the Environment" is free and open to the public.
He will meet with representatives of youth groups and agencies dealing with youngsters in a forum on "Alternatives to Youth Violence" at 7 p.m. Friday at Farrington High School auditorium.
Alejandrez will also speak March 12 at the University of Hawaii in sessions open to the public. His talks at noon in Social Science Building Room 704-F and at 4:30 p.m. in Law School Classroom 2 are sponsored by the School of Social Work, the Sociology Department and the Center for Prevention of Violence Among Asian/Pacific Islander Youth.
His appearances are underwritten by the Watada Lectures endowment at Church of the Crossroads.
The series honors the late Umematsu Watada, who worked with the YMCA for more than 30 years, retiring as director of the metropolitan YMCA, and his wife, Yasu, a retired public school teacher. It was endowed by David and Kathy Watada Wurfel.
