Myles Padaca of Sunset Beach finished second, David Cantrell, also from the North Shore, took third, and Strider Wasilewski was fourth.
HPU win streak snapped
The BYU-Hawaii softball team snapped Hawaii Pacific's 11-game unbeaten streak to gain a doubleheader split yesterday in Laie.Summer George scattered nine hits and first baseman Lyza Halas knocked in four runs for the Seasiders (4-8, 2-8 PacWest) in a 5-1 second-game victory.
In the first game, the Sea Warriors (11-1, 9-1) scored three runs in the eighth inning -- with the aid of three BYUH errors -- for a 6-3 win.
Minvielle regatta set
The A.E. "Toots'' Minvielle Invitational Regatta, with teams from Oahu, Maui, the Big Island, Kauai and Tahiti, is scheduled for tomorrow and Sunday at Keehi Lagoon.Nearly 1,000 paddlers, ages 10-18, are expected to participate, some 700 of them representing the host Na Opio Canoe Racing Association's 11 Oahu clubs.
The opening ceremonies are at 8 a.m. tomorrow followed by six-man canoe racing at 9 a.m. Sunday's one-man canoe races begin at 9 a.m.
The regatta is named for the late founder of the Molokai Hoe, the men's canoe race from Molokai to Oahu.
