Cal State-Dominguez Hills rocked Hawaii Pacific University pitchers for 21 hits in a 12-9 first-game victory, then edged the Sea Warriors, 5-3, for a sweep of their baseball doubleheader yesterday at Hans L'Orange Park.

Home runs by Joe Gevas and Andy Darlak in the nightcap helped the Toros even their season record at 6-6. They got four hits apiece from Cedric Gilmore and Edgar Esqueda in the opener.

Corey Hansen went 4-for-7 in the doubleheader for HPU (6-8).

Cabrero wipes out

Defending champion Carlos Cabrero was a casualty of powerful surf conditions yesterday as the HIC Pipeline Pro continued at the Banzai Pipeline.

Cabrero, from Puerto Rico, wiped out during a fourth-round heat, dislocating his shoulder.

The top ride yesterday was turned in by Ewa Beach's Isaac Kaneshiro, who earned a perfect 10 after taking the longest tube ride of the contest.

Organizers of the ASP World Qualifying Series event hoped to finish it today.
