Malcolm in the middle? Not when it comes to the Great Aloha Run.

For the fourth straight year, it was Malcolm in the front.

Malcolm Campbell successfully defended his GAR title, easily winning the 17th annual event.

The 30-year-old from Scotland completed the 8.15-mile course in a non-record 40 minutes, 30 seconds. It was a personal best in the race from Aloha Tower to Aloha Stadium for Campbell.

"It's always better when you succeed in what you set out to succeed,'' said Campbell, who was nearly a minute ahead of runner-up Sunj-Woon Lee of Korea (41:26). "The aim for me today was to go out hard early on and take control of the race."

Cool, slightly breezy conditions greeted the some 21,000 runners at the starting line. The race, a fund-raiser for over 100 non-profit organizations in Hawaii, is one of the largest "fun'' runs in the U.S.

Campbell expects to be back next year.

"I just love to come here,'' he said. "I got engaged here. I got married here. And this year, two of my friends got engaged. Maybe I should start a marriage business.''
