Merk and Joe Lowenhardt put the numbers on the plane's tail. The
two men were preparing yesterday for the Great Hawaiian Air Race,
which takes flight today and finishes Monday. Fliers will race from
Honolulu to Hana today and from Hana to Honolulu on Sunday.
There is also a mystery challenge race set for Monday and myriad
events on several islands throughout the weekend. Proceeds from
the race benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Super Soaker
By Ken Sakamoto, Star-Bulletin
Six-year-old Cassidy Bek mans a fire hose yesterday, with a little
help from firefighter Frank Sanchez, during a visit to Waikiki Fire
Station 7. Cassidy's kindergarten class at Leihoku Elementary
School in Waianae visited the station, where the firefighters
performed a comedy routine to teach them about fire safety.
Then, as a finale, the children got to try out the fire hoses.
