Star-Bulletin"Those are the cards that came across the table to us," said head coach Mike Wilton.
He said sophomore All-American outside hitter Costas Theocharidis, recovering from food poisoning, remains listless and weak.
"He just started to eat a little food today," Wilton said yesterday. "I don't think he can play."
Theocharidis is the team's leading hitter, averaging 4.21 kills a game.
Freshman setter Kimo Tuyay, who played the first two games of Tuesday's sweep at UC San Diego, has suffered a relapse of the virus from earlier this week.
Wilton will have to go with a starting lineup that includes 6-foot-1 sophomore backup setter Kyle Denitz in place of Tuyay and 6-2 sophomore outside hitter Tony Ching in place of Theocharidis.
Denitz and Ching were in the lineup that came from behind to wrap up Tuesday's match with a 30-24 win in game 3.
Ching had a team-high 13 kills against UC San Diego.
Hawaii (9-2) leads the MPSF Pacific Division at 5-1. Long Beach State (6-2) is 5-2.
David McKienzie, a 6-4 senior opposite, is coming off a 20-kill, 10-dig performance for the 49ers in a loss to Pepperdine on Tuesday. Scott Touzinsky, a 6-7 freshman outside hitter, also had a double-double against the Waves with 17 kills and 10 digs.
