Planning the big day

Pick up on the latest trends in wedding apparel -- for instance, replacing the tradition veil with a jeweled tiara -- when Neiman Marcus hosts "The Wedding Event" Saturday and Sunday.

There will be a trunk show of wedding gowns from Amsale, fashions for wedding parties and displays of wedding rings, table settings and intimate apparel.

While the displays will be on view during store hours, there will also be informal modeling of wedding gowns and bridal party fashion from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days in the fine apparel department and throughout the store.

From noon to 4 p.m. both days, there will be representatives from photography studios, bakeries, florists, hotels and limousine services, available to consult with prospective brides.

Guests may also register to win a honeymoon on Lanai, including Aloha Island Air fare, gift certificates and other prizes.

For more information, call NM's Bridal Registry at 951-3460.

An opportunity to wear this wedding gown
by Sophie Sung is one of the prizes
in a Harlequin contest.

Wear gown of the future

While we're talking weddings, enter to win a honeymoon on Maui, courtesy of Harlequin Enterprises, Ltd., purveyors of romantic fiction.

The package includes a six-nihgt, seven-day stay at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa, with a candlelit dinner at Swan Court and sunset catamaran sail, plus the opportunity to don a wedding gown designed by Sophie Sung.

Sung was the winner of a wedding gown of the future design contest, sponsored by Harlequin. Sung beat 400 others with her creation in silk dupioni overlaid with lace and embellished with seed pearls and iridescent sequins. An abbreviated farthingale at the hip is adorned with silk roses and the headdress combines feathers and multiple tiers of illusion netting.

To enter, write to Harlequin and explain in 250 words or less why wearing the dress would make your wedding day special. Entries must be postmarked no later than Oct. 1 and be received by Oct. 8 at: Harlequin Walk Down the Aisle Contest 1197, P.O. Box 9076, Buffalo, NY 14269-9076 in the United States; P.O.
