Beach Boys

Beach Boys heading
back to town

Star-Bulletin
Though no official announcement has been made, the Beach Boys are negotiating to perform at the Waikiki Shell in late May.

The group performed at the Blaisdell Arena last May before a near sellout crowd.

Led by singer Mike Love, musician-singer Bruce Johnston, and drummer Mike Kowalski, the Beach Boys last week performed at the opening of Disney's new $1.4-billion California Adventure in Anaheim, Calif., before more than 4,000 people. The other Beach Boys include Adrian Baker, Phil Bardowell, Tim Bonhomme, Chris Farmer and Mike Meros.

Love, Johnson and the group's manager confirmed planning for concerts on Maui and Honolulu in May.

"I looooove Hawaii," Love said after the group's 90-minute Anaheim concert.

The group this year celebrates its 40th anniversary. Over the years, it has been awarded 22 gold, five platinum and three multiplatinum albums. Wednesday, the group will receive a Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award.

In honor of the anniversary, Capitol Records will release 16 of the group's most popular original albums, packaged two to a CD, the first coming out March 26, and the second four April 10.

The 1960s recordings have been digitally remastered and will contain track-by-track annotations. All two-fer CDs also feature bonus tracks.

The 16 titles as packaged are:

Bullet Surfin' Safari/Surfin' USA

Bullet Surfer Girl/Shut Down V. 2

Bullet Little Deuce Coupe/All Summer Long

Bullet The Beach Boys Today/Summer Days (And Summer Nights)

Bullet Party/Stack-O-Tracks

Bullet Smiley Smile/Wild Honey

Bullet Friends/20/20

Bullet Beach Boys/Live in London
