Athletes of the Week
Nicole Garbin The senior midfielder scored both goals -- with her head -- in a 2-0 win over Mililani in the state title game, and scored four times in a 5-3 win over Kailua in the quarterfinals.
BALDWIN SOCCER
Daniel Burris The junior midfielder scored both goals in the first half of a 2-1 upset of Punahou on the final day of the ILH regular season.

Here are some of last week's other outstanding performers in Hawaii high school sports:
BASKETBALL
Phillip Alisa, Kahuku: Scored six of 13 points in fourth quarter of an Oahu Interscholastic Association Tournament win against Pearl City, and tallied 19 points over Campbell.William and Rashaun Broadus, Mililani: Combined for 60 points in two wins that helped the Trojans qualify for the state tournament.
Richard Kim, Punahou: Averaged over 18 points in final two regular season games.
Travis McGaughy, Iolani: Drained four treys and totaled 14 points in a win over Mid-Pacific that sealed the Interscholastic League of Honolulu championship for the Raiders.
Samson Satele, Kailua: Scored seven points in the fourth, and his 3-point play gave team the lead for good. He also grabbed a rebound with two seconds left to preserve win over Aiea.
Russell Sypowicz, Maryknoll: Scored 19 points in a win over Mid-Pacific and 18 more against Kamehameha.
Ryan Zabriske, Punahou: Notched a season-high 16 points in a victory over Kamehameha.
SOCCER
Shayna Egloria, Pearl City: Tallied a pair of goals in a win over Kahuku.Jennifer Iha, Mililani: Led the runner-up Trojans with a goal in the quarterfinals and the semifinals.
Natasha Kai, Kahuku: Recorded two second-half goals in the Red Raiders' come-from-behind win over Hilo.
Nadine Manangan, Aiea: Tallied two scores in opening-round win against Waiakea.
Amber Santos, Kauai: Scored a goal in each of the Red Raiders' two games.
Shawna Shimamura, Baldwin: Helped the Bears reach final with two goals in 3-0 win against Hawaii Prep.
Kekoa Smith, Kamehameha: The sophomore notched the game's lone goal in upset of Iolani, then scored twice in one-game playoff win over King Kekaulike to help Warriors into the state tournament.
Alana Souza, Baldwin: Made two corner kicks that resulted in both goals in the title game against Mililani.
Sarah Takekawa, Kailua: Notched five goals in the tournament, including two against Baldwin and two against Kauai.
Tiffany Taylor, Punahou: Scored three times, including a pair of goals in a win over Kahuku.
SWIMMING
Marina Morie, Punahou: Finished first in the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley and helped the Buffanblu win the girls' ILH title.Hong Zhe Sun, Iolani: Won the 100 butterfly and 100 back to lead Raiders to the ILH championship.
BALDWIN DOMINANCE
The Baldwin girls outscored opponents, 14-4, in the last two state soccer tournaments (with four shutouts) and were 5-0 against OIA teams.
TWELVE YEARS AGO THIS WEEK
Punahou edged Hawaii Prep, 2-1, in the semifinals of the boys' state tournament on two goals by senior Alika McGuire. Senior Keawe Liu scored for HPA. The Buffanblu won the state title the following day.Liu went on to the University of Colorado, where he met Ian Earle.
Only when they became friends at Colorado did they find out they had both played in the 1989 semifinal -- with Earle winning a trophy as a member of the Punahou squad.
Liu returns to Oahu this week as first-year coach of Ka Makani, with Earle as assistant coach.
