Matson officials said yesterday the company had formed an alliance with Commodity Forwarders Inc., an international air freight forwarding company based in Los Angeles. Commodity buys space on commercial airlines for its freight service.
Under the alliance, Matson customers now can book air, ocean and intermodal freight by using Matson's customer support center. The alliance is part of Matson's effort to become a one-stop source for customers with varying freight needs.
"This is sort of an experimental thing to see how it works," said C. Bradley Mulholland, Matson's chief executive. "I don't expect it to make a lot of money."
Matson is a subsidiary of Honolulu-based Alexander & Baldwin Inc.
