sentenced in fraud cases

Star-Bulletin staff

Five people recently were sentenced for fraud in Circuit Court:

Bullet Mary Jane Reveira, 51, of Waianae, received concurrent five-year prison terms for two second-degree theft counts involving welfare fraud and was ordered to pay $10,285 in restitution to the state.

On probation for theft and forgery offenses committed on the Big Island, she was found guilty of concealing her job with Zippy's and subsequent worker's compensation benefits.

Bullet Angelo Leroy Gallarde Sr., 57, of Ewa Beach, had his probation revoked and was sentenced to concurrent five-year prison terms for two counts of second-degree theft. He also was ordered to pay $17,500 in restitution.

The state said Gallarde was a career criminal who represented himself as a licensed building contractor, taking deposits from victims and ignoring contractual obligations. He was sentenced to probation for these crimes in 1993 and ordered to make restitution.

He failed to make restitution and left Hawaii without permission. He was found in Florida and extradited back here to answer a charge of probation violation.

Bullet Sileiloa Smart, 34, of Ewa Beach, was denied deferral of her no-contest pleas on two counts of second-degree theft and was sentenced to five years' probation. She was ordered to get a full-time job and pay $25,119 in restitution to the state.

She was found to have fraudulently obtained welfare payments by concealing her marriage, the subsequent death of her husband in a car crash and her later receipt of Social Security survivor benefits for herself and her children.

Bullet Georgette Crivello, 46, of Waianae was granted a deferral of her no contest plea on one count of second-degree theft and given five years' probation. She was ordered to get a full-time job, complete 100 hours of community service and pay $15,849 in restitution.

If she meets all these requirements, the case against her will be dismissed at the end of five years and she will not have a criminal record.

She fraudulently received welfare benefits by concealing that her husband received a large lump sum annuity distribution from his former employer.

Bullet Lorna J. Kekuewa, 44, of Waikiki was denied a deferral of her guilty plea on one count of first-degree theft and sentenced to five years' probation.

She was ordered to get a full-time job and pay $32,758 in restitution. She concealed that her child was not living with her in order to obtain welfare benefits.
