Star-BulletinAn Oahu grand jury yesterday charged Celeste Flores, 36, and husband Victor Flores, 38, in a 17-count indictment on various charges ranging from third- to first-degree sexual assault.
Celeste Flores was the legal guardian of the teen-ager -- an eighth-grader -- and a relative.
The couple, arrested Feb. 1 at their Hoomaliu Street home, are being held at the Oahu Community Correctional Center. Each is being held in lieu of $250,000 cash-only bail.
The couple allegedly engaged in oral and sexual intercourse with the girl on numerous occasions between July 2000 and Jan. 31, 2001. On at least three occasions, Celeste Flores solicited her husband to do so, according to the indictment charging her with being an accomplice.Victor Flores was charged with 11 counts, including multiple first-degree sexual assaults, and third- and fourth-degree sexual assault.
Celeste Flores was charged with five counts, including third- and first-degree sexual assault and being an accomplice to first-degree sexual assault.
School authorities notified police on Feb. 1 after the eighth-grader, breaking down and crying, told a school principal that her guardian had made her pregnant.
The girl told police Victor Flores had been sexually assaulting her since about September to late December, and that his wife knew about it.
She also told detectives that Celeste Flores was "involved in and sometimes observed and directed the sexual intercourse" between her and her cousin's husband, according to court documents.
Celeste Flores apparently had the girl tested and confirmed she was pregnant. Celeste Flores, who is nine months pregnant herself, also had made an appointment for the girl to abort the pregnancy and planned to send her back to her biological mother in Guam, police said.
The girl was taken into protective custody on Jan. 31. The couple were not arrested at the time because they were not at home when police went looking for them.
Child Protective Services later took custody of the couple's three children -- two girls, ages two and 10, and a 9-year-old boy.
Phone service to the couple's home, which is also a number for L&F Gifts International Inc., an importer and wholesaler for gift items, has been disconnected.
