Star-BulletinThe driver, Anna Maria Llanos, appeared in Honolulu District Court at a preliminary hearing yesterday on two charges of auto theft, and one charge each of attempted assault in the first degree, robbery and criminal property damage.
The court deemed there was probable cause and ordered Llanos to appear 8:30 a.m. Feb. 20 for arraignment and plea in Circuit Court. Bail remained at $100,000.
The Ewa Beach woman was arrested with passenger Curtis Kaahanui last Thursday after police spotted her driving an allegedly stolen Acura into a townhouse parking lot at 92-972 Panana St.
Officer Madeline Morikawa and five other plainclothes officers were on a stakeout for a stolen Ford Mustang in Makakilo when they ran a check on the Acura and discovered it was stolen. They followed it back to the townhouse parking lot.
Morikawa testified she instructed her partner to block the Acura in a parking stall with the Chevy Blazer he was driving. Morikawa got out of the Blazer and Llanos tried to ram the Blazer.
"I held up my badge, pointed my weapon and shouted, 'Police. Freeze,' " Morikawa said.
Llanos' car lunged forward. Morikawa tried to jump out of the way, thinking she cleared the vehicle, she said.
But her foot was run over by the Acura and her right leg was pinned between the two vehicles, Morikawa said.
Morikawa stood five feet in front of the car as Anna Llanos revved it up, as "the tires were screeching and squealing," emitting smoke and burning rubber.
She fired one shot into the passenger side door at an angle, but the bullet did not penetrate the car.
Morikawa said she suffered abrasions to her right foot, but no broken bones. She is neither on leave nor undergoing treatment,.
