Athletes of the Week
Nichele Benuska The junior goalkeeper made three crucial penalty kick saves to keep Kalaheo off the board, and she made several stops during regulation as the Red Raiders edged Kalaheo, 2-0, in PKs in the quarterfinals.
KAHUKU SOCCER
Benji Villaflor The senior midfielder scored a goal in a OIA Tournament win against Roosevelt and two more in the team's 4-0 win over Kalani in the quarterfinals that secured a berth in the state tournament.

BASKETBALL
Kevin Calloway, Radford: Poured in a season-high 25 points against Campbell.Aaron Francisco, Kahuku: Averaged 18 points in two wins, including a 22-point effort against McKinley.
Kolo Kapanui, Kamehameha: Scored 18 of his 25 points in the first half of a win over Mid-Pacific.
Eric Marshall, Leilehua: The sophomore scored a team-high 23 points in a win over previously-unbeaten Mililani.
Travis McGaughy, Iolani: His layup in the final minute of OT lifted the Raiders to 60-59 win over Kamehameha, and he tallied 15 points against Punahou.
Waikaloa Noa, Maryknoll: Nailed four 3-pointers and totaled 17 points against Damien in the team's first win this season.
Anthony Sandobal, Nanakuli: Exploded for a league season-high 32 points, including four treys, against Campbell and added 16 more against Waipahu.
Samson Satele, Kailua: Hit a layup with two seconds left in the fourth OT to give Surfriders a 50-49 win over Kaimuki.
SOCCER
Megan Abbott, Punahou: Scored a goal in 1-1 tie against Kamehameha and scored another against Maryknoll.Ha'aheo Bento, St. Louis: Notched a pair of goals in 3-2 victory over Mid-Pacific, including the game-winner with two minutes left.
Sarah Takekawa, Kailua: Netted three goals in OIA Tournament win against Radford.
Mike Terry, Iolani: Booted in game's lone goal against Pac-Five to help the Raiders move into first place tie.
Lehua Wood, Kamehameha: Scored a pair of goals in 3-1 win against St. Francis and one goal against Iolani.
SOFTBALL
Lindsay Fujita, Punahou: Her second hit of the day knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth, in 7-6 win over HBA/SA/SF.Ianeta Lei, Iolani: Tossed a three-hitter in 4-1 win against Kamehameha in ILH title game, and homered and earned win against Mid-Pacific.
Skylar Tokumine, University: The senior pitched a five-inning perfect game in the season finale, striking out seven, and hit a home run and knocked in two runs in a 10-0 triumph against La Pietra.

CHEERS FOR CHEERLEADERS
Kaimuki (East) and Pearl City (West) are the first OIA varsity pep squad division champions. The inaugural OIA Championships will be held Feb. 10 at Radford.
Back in the Day
TWENTY-THREE YEARS AGO THIS WEEK
It took an extra inning, but top-seeded Hilo squeezed out an 8-7 win against Pearl City at Lihue County Park to win the state softball championship, which was in its second year.Roxanne Ayala tripled in the eighth and scored on a throwing error. Hilo's Charlene Kela hurled her third complete game in a row for the win. In the first round of the tourney, Kela tossed a perfect game against Hana.
Cherie Yabui of Pearl City also threw three consecutive complete games, including back-to-back one-hitters.
Hilo is one of only two neighbor island teams to win a softball crown, the other being Waimea in 1990.
