Pearl City upsets
top soccer seed

Chante Figueroa scored two minutes into the second overtime to give Pearl City a 3-2 upset win against top seed Kahuku yesterday in the girls' semifinals of the Oahu Interscholastic Association Tournament.

In the other semifinal, Joelle Sugai scored goals 67 minutes apart -- in the fifth and 72nd minutes -- as Aiea stunned Mililani, 2-0.

The Trojans, who averaged 7.7 goals in their other nine regular and postseason games, failed to score in two games against Na Alii (10-1-1).

Pearl City (10-1-0) and Aiea play for the OIA championship on Saturday at Pearl City at 5:30 p.m.

The Red Raiders (10-1-0) and Trojans (9-1-1) play for third place on Friday.

In the boys' OIA Tournament consolation semifinals, Keaka Lee notched a goal six minutes into overtime to lift Kalani to a 2-1 win over Kailua. And Castle dumped Radford, 2-0.

Pearl City meets Aiea today in the first boys' semifinal and Mililani and Campbell battle in the nightcap.


Basketball

Kaimuki 51, Kahuku 40

Kaimuki turned on its full-court press in the fourth quarter to hold Kahuku scoreless and walk away with a 51-40 win in the OIA.

Kila Kamakawiwo'ole scored 10 of his game-high 18 points in the first half and hit 4-of-5 free throws down the stretch in the final quarter for the Bulldogs (7-2).

Kahuku finished its regular season at 7-3.
