International gymnastics
to land at Blaisdell

The USA Gymnastics Pontiac American Team Cup competition, featuring the national teams of the United States, China and Romania, will be held March 30-31 at the Blaisdell Arena.

The event will be televised for broadcast by NBC Sports April 7 and 14.

China and Romania took silver and bronze team medals at last year's Sydney Olympics.

UH's Yamashita is the WAC pitcher of the week

Right-hander Sean Yamashita was named the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week yesterday for his performance against Cal State Sacramento.

The University of Hawaii junior pitched five hitless innings. He struck out seven Hornets and did not issue a walk.

The only batter to reach base against the junior from Pearl City High School did so on a error.

Nevada outfielder Chris Nickerson was the WAC Player of the Week after hitting .364.

NFL players in golf test at Ko Olina tomorrow

Current and former NFL players will participate in the Ace Hardware Golf Shootout at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Ko Olina Golf Club.

Kurt Warner and Orlando Pace of the St. Louis Rams, Rod Woodson of the Baltimore Ravens, Tim Brown of the Oakland Raiders, and Ray Buchanan and Jamal Anderson of the Atlanta Falcons, along with former NFL greats Eric Dickerson and Franco Harris, are scheduled to play.

Event organizers are trying to raise $1.6 million dollars for 170 children's hospitals affiliated with Children's Miracle Network.

Children who have been treated at children's hospitals affiliated with the network will be honorary caddies.
