Seven go from The seven Pro Bowl players taking part in Super Bowl XXXV had a long trek from Tampa, Fla., to Honolulu today, including most valuable player Ray Lewis, who led the Baltimore Ravens to a convincing 34-7 victory over the New York Giants.

Most of the players arrive
in the islands todayBy Paul Arnett
Star-BulletinNational Football League officials said most of the players were due today, but others could arrive tomorrow, if needed for special television engagements. Lewis will be joined by fellow teammates Jonathan Ogden, Sam Adams, Rod Woodson and Matt Stover. All five of the Raven Pro Bowl players are scheduled to start Sunday's nationally televised game at Aloha Stadium.
Only two New York Giants will be represented in the 51st NFL all-star game. They are outside linebacker Jessie Armstead and offensive guard Ron Stone, who is listed as a reserve.
Unlike past games, injuries will play a part in who is here and who is not in the 2001 game. The National Football Conference already has lost Minnesota wideout Randy Moss, St. Louis running back Marshall Faulk, Minnesota tailback Robert Smith, and Detroit inside linebacker Stephen Boyd.
The replacement players are New Orleans wideout Joe Horn, Washington running back Stephen Davis, Tampa Bay tailback Warrick Dunn, and Chicago linebacker Brian Urlacher.
The American Football Conference was also hit hard, especially at quarterback. Jacksonville offensive tackle Tony Boselli, Tennessee offensive guard Bruce Matthews, Denver center Tom Nalen, and quarterbacks Brian Griese of Denver and Tennessee's Steve McNair couldn't make the trip.
Stepping in with smiles on their faces are offensive linemen Lincoln Kennedy of Oakland, Kansas City's Will Shields, and Miami center Tim Ruddy, and Kansas City quarterback Elvis Grbac. AFC head coach Jon Gruden said Oakland Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon would start on Sunday.
"I know Rich is looking forward to that moment," Gruden said. "He had a great year for us and deserves the opportunity. I know we're both looking forward to getting out there and competing."
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning will also see playing time under center. The NFC quarterbacks are Daunte Culpepper of Minnesota, Kurt Warner of St. Louis, and Jeff Garcia of San Francisco.
Tickets are still available for the game, which will be blacked out locally if there's not a sellout 72 hours prior to kickoff. Only one game has failed to be a sellout since the Pro Bowl moved to Honolulu in 1980. It will be shown nationally on ABC-TV with Al Michaels, Dennis Miller and Dan Fouts at the broadcast helm.
The kickoff is 12:30 p.m.
