Roddick takes
Waikoloa challenger title

Andy Roddick of Boca Raton, Fla. has only been a tennis pro for five months, but he played like a veteran yesterday.

The 18-year-old Roddick rallied to beat James Blake of Fairfield, Conn., 1-6, 6-3, 6-1, in the 2nd Annual Hilton Waikoloa Village USTA Challenger singles final on the Big Island.

Roddick earned $7,600.

Paul Goldstein of Rockville, Md. and Jim Thomas of Canton, Ohio, dropped the opening set in the doubles final to Paradom Srichaphan of Thailand and Mike Bryan of Camarillo, Calif., but recovered to win, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Goldstein and Thomas split $3,100.

Bodyboard contest on hold

The holding period for the V Bodyboards World Championship of Women's Bodyboarding continued today at the Banzai Pipeline.

The top 72 women's bodyboarders in the world are scheduled to compete in the three-day event.

The holding period runs through Feb. 9.

Volcano Bowl Saturday

The Volcano Bowl football game, pitting the Hawaiian Warriors against the Fasco All-Stars from the mainland, is Saturday at 7 p.m. at Kaiser Stadium. Tickets are $5 presale and $7 at the gate.

Seniors tennis deadline

Entries close Friday for the Ala Moana Seniors Tennis Tournament to be played Feb. 10-11 at the Diamond Head Tennis Center.
