The Sea Warriors scored 21 runs and hit four homers in the 12 innings they batted in the two games.
"I always knew we were going to score some runs," HPU coach Allan Sato said.
HPU (4-4) hoped to avenge a doubleheader sweep Friday by perennial region power Sonoma State (4-4).
"It became gut-check time for a lot of these guys," Sato said.
In the first game, both teams scored four runs in the first inning, but the Sea Warriors came back with five in the third -- thanks to three Cossack errors -- to take a 9-4 lead they would not relinquish.
In the second game, HPU jumped out to a 4-1 lead, with two RBIs coming from Tom Peters in the second inning. Sonoma State would go on to score seven runs in the game, but the HPU offense kept pace.
"The offensive side was there," Sato said. "The defense at times kind of broke down."
HPU, which doesn't play again until Feb. 22, was ahead 9-4 and 5-2 before allowing Sonoma State to come back and make both games close.
"(The one-month layoff is) good and bad," Sato said. "When you're coming off eight games in five days, this rest is going to do everybody good. We're going to go back and work on pitching with leads."
