Back in the Day
SEVENTEEN YEARS AGO THIS WEEK
Freshman sensation Noe Miranda hurled her second no-hitter of the season to lead Kamehameha past Punahou, 4-0. Only one Buffanblu batter reached base -- on a walk.Kamehameha, coached by Hank Makekau, would fall short in their quest for a state title that spring (Pearl City won), but would capture its first state crown the following year.

The wait to see where two Kahuku all-state defensive players, including the Star-Bulletin defensive player of the year, are heading for college should be over by next week. Recruits start
making decisionsRed Raiders coach Siuaki Livai said Chris Kemeo'atu (DL, 6-foot-5, 330) and Aaron Francisco (DB, 6-3, 190) are completing their recruiting trips this week.
"Aaron (Francisco) is going to take his trip to Arizona, and he'll probably be ready next week after he visits UH," Livai said yesterday. "I think UH has a good chance."
Livai also said Kemoe'atu is visiting Nebraska this week and should also be ready to make a decision early next week.
Two Kahuku players did make commitments yesterday, with Semisi Livai (LB, 6-0, 200) making a verbal commitment with Utah and Saia Hafoka (WR, 5-10, 165) committing to Brigham Young.
Livai said UH did not offer a scholarship to either player.
