Toss a few torso twists into your aerobics routine. Fashion's new focus is the waistline.

Belts in a variety of widths and styles are back in style.

Once popular in the early 1990s, chain-link belts that hang from the waist or around the hips can be worn with a casual pair of jeans and a camisole tank-top or a sophisticated blouse and skirt.

Stores in Ala Moana Center carry a variety of chain-link belts to dress up an outfit.

Darnelle Yee, co-manager at Bebe, said their chain-link belts, about $20 to $28, can dress up a plain outfit.

"It completes your look," she said. A double strand of medium clear rhinestones sure to throw off sparks in the nightclubs, is on sale for $41.30.

At Celine Paris, a medium-sized gold belt with a C dangling at the end, is inspired by City of Light's Arc de Triomphe.

In Jennifer Lopez's latest music video, "Love Don't Cost a Thing," she wears the $150 chain link belt around her hips with a pair of dark-blue jeans adding sass to her ensemble.

Apryle Veneri, assistant manager at Celine Paris, said chain-link belts are making a return to fashion as the industry continues its move from minimalism to extreme embellishment.

At Liberty House, a single strand of small clear rhinestones with a cluster of six rhinestone forming a dangling charm is available for $15. For romantics, a similar belt, also $15, is available with a heart of clear crystals shimmering at its ends.

A single strand of tiny pink rhinestones is available at Guess Inc., for $34. Will Lee, men's fashion coordinator at the store, said, "I think it's sexy. What's even more appealing is when a woman wears a chain-link belt around her hips with a top that shows off her belly button."

Neiman Marcus offers a small double-strand clear crystal buckle belt for $85. Maroon or orange double-strand crystal belts are $75.

For $95, Neiman Marcus also carries a rhinestone belt with stones in four shades of blue, ranging from sparkling turquoise to murky opal.

The belt also comes in pink and green.

As for what's ahead, look for statement-making buckles bearing zodiac signs or that proclaim the wearer is "Sexy" or a "Babe."
