Coin toss keeps
Nanakuli out of playoffs

Star-Bulletin staff

Nanakuli is the odd team out.

Waipahu and Campbell filled the final two Oahu Interscholastic Association softball tournament spots by winning coin flips yesterday, leaving the Golden Hawks out of the playoff picture.

All three teams finished the OIA Western Division regular season with 4-5 records.

The OIA Tournament begins on Tuesday with four games. The top four seeds -- Mililani, Kailua, Pearl City and Kaimuki -- play on Wednesday.

The championship game is set for noon on Saturday at the Hawaii Pacific University softball field in Kaneohe.

The fifth place game is Friday, with the winner securing the OIA's final state tournament berth.

First round games include Roosevelt at Leilehua, Campbell at Castle, Farrington at Waianae and Waipahu at Moanalua.

Mililani is the two-time defending league champion, and has won three of the past four tournaments.
