Athletes of the Week
Derrick Low The freshman point guard scored 27 points in the ILH opener against Punahou, scoring nine points in the third quarter to help the Raiders pull away from the Buffanblu.
IOLANI BASKETBALL
Cathy Migita The senior -- a state champion at 121 pounds -- was bumped up to the 130 pound weight class against Moanalua and responded by pinning Diane Kau to help the Knights hand the Menehunes their first loss ever.

Here are some of last week's other outstanding performers in Hawaii high school sports: Honor Roll
BASKETBALL
Terry Ayers, Pearl City: Scored six of his 21 points in OT against Aiea, then scored 18 points in win over Radford.Micah Casey, Kahuku: Exploded for 25 points on 12-of-17 shooting in a win over Farrington. He also pulled down 16 rebounds and blocked four shots.
Joshua Jumawan, Leilehua: Averaged 16 points in two wins and drilled four 3-pointers against Mililani.
Nainoa Spencer, Kamehameha: Hit three 3-pointers and scored 17 points in win over Mid-Pacific.
Lima Toa, McKinley: Scored eight of his 10 points in third quarter to help the Tigers pull away from Roosevelt. Also scored 11 points against Kalani.
SOCCER
Nathan Amous, Kalaheo: Scored twice in a 3-1 win over Kahuku and once in a win over Kaimuki that lifted the team into first place.Christopher Chandler, Punahou: Scored the game's lone goal in win against previously unbeaten Kamehameha.
Jolie Nitta, Mililani: Totaled five goals in two games, including three against Radford.
Erin Ota, Maryknoll: Tallied three goals in team's first win, a 5-0 triumph over Mid-Pacific.
SOFTBALL
Narceliza Domingo, Farrington: Blasted a two-run home run in bottom of the seventh to boost Governors to 12-11 win against Kalani.Chaz Ebalaroza, Moanalua: Tossed a one-hitter in 10-0 win over Kaiser.
Shelly Featheran, Kailua: Singled in winning run with two outs in the seventh in 4-3 win over previously-unbeaten Kaimuki, and also earned the win on the mound.
Pikake Nutter-Gaudet, Leilehua: Pitching in her first game, the freshman threw a five-inning no-hitter in the Mules' 13-1 win over Aiea. She struck out five and walked three.
Jerrie Obrero, HBA/SA/SF: Was winning pitcher and went 4-for-4 with a HR and 3 RBIs against Mid-Pacific.
Pua Reis, Sacred Hearts: Hit a grand slam in win over La Pietra.
Leo Sing Chow , Kamehameha: Threw five-hitter over nine innings and struck out 12 in win over Iolani and also combined with Sharee Fonoti for a five-inning no-hitter against Mid-Pacific.
WRESTLING
Pedro Valarde, McKinley: Won two matches at 189 pounds with pins in a dual meet with Kalaheo and Kaimuki.

Jason Leanio may be the answer to a local sports trivia question someday ... for scoring Kapolei High's first boys' varsity soccer goal, in a 4-1 loss to Waialua.
Back in the Day
TWENTY YEARS AGO THIS WEEK
Moanalua opened its OIA season with a 76-59 win over Nanakuli. Sam Johnson produced half of the Menehune's offensive output -- piling up 38 points. Nanakuli's Maury Montez finished with 25 points in a losing effort.Coach Eric Heu and the Menehunes went on to capture their first-ever state championship a couple months later.
