The outfield fence at Rainbow Stadium will be brought in by 15 feet this season, according to University of Hawaii officials.
Currently, the dimensions of the field are 340 feet down the left- and right-field foul lines, 380 feet to the power alleys and 400 feet to center.
The new distances will be 325 feet down the lines, 365 to the power alleys and 385 feet to center.
The wall also will be lowered from 12 feet to 10 feet. Construction is expected to be completed by Jan. 19.
According to UH athletic director Hugh Yoshida, the request to move in the wall was made by coach Les Murakami prior to his stroke.
Meanwhile, acting head baseball coach Carl Furutani recently announced the senior captains for this season. The are third baseman Patrick Scalabrini, first baseman-designated hitter Danny Kimura, reliever Wakon Childers and outfielder Scooter Martines.
Ostler returns home
Troy Ostler, the senior co-captain of the University of Hawaii men's basketball team, is returning to Honolulu and will miss today's game at Southern Methodist in Dallas.Ostler sprained his left ankle in the Dec. 23 game against Alabama-Birmingham.
"We decided to send him home and continue rehabilitation,'' said Rainbow coach Riley Wallace.
Ostler played nine minutes and scored four points in Thursday's loss at TCU in Fort Worth.
Racing continues today
The Super Saturday StreetCar series, which features the Triple 6 StreetCar Special, resumes today at Hawaii Raceway Park in Kapolei.Gates open at 6 p.m. It costs $6 to race and $6 to watch.

Golf Hawaii on tomorrow
The Golf Channel (Oceanic cable 25) will broadcast the premier episode of the locally produced television show Golf Hawaii 2001 tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.Maui resident and NBC golf commentator Mark Rolfing will once again host the show in 12 half-hour episodes during the first and fourth quarters of 2001.

Table tennis on tap
The Hawaii Senior Open, a recreational table tennis tournament with participants from Japan, the U.S. mainland and Hawaii, will take place Jan. 25-26 at the Hawaii Convention Center.The tournament is the first international exchange tournament in the U.S. with the Japan Table Tennis Association, one of the largest organized table tennis organizations in the world.
The JTTA will sponsor next year's 26th World Table Tennis Championships in Osaka, Japan.
