Three pitchers were involved in two no-hitters in prep softball action yesterday.

Leilehua freshman Pikake Nutter-Gaudet pitched a five-inning gem in her first varsity appearance to lead the Mules to a 13-1 victory over Aiea in an Oahu Interscholastic Association game.

She struck out five and walked three. Nutter-Gaudet got the start against Na Alii after scheduled starter Alexis San Nicholas, also a freshman, got sick.

Leo Sing Chow and Sharee Fonoti of Kamehameha combined to blank Mid-Pacific over five innings, with Sing Chow completing the first four innings of a 10-0 Interscholastic League of Honolulu win.

Sing Chow, who earlier in the season hurled 17 consecutive scoreless innings, struck out six and hit one batter.

Also in the ILH, Iolani beat University, 8-2, to set up a showdown on Saturday with second-place Kamehameha.

The 9-0 Raiders, the defending state champions, handed Kamehameha its lone loss in December.

In that game, Stacey Higa smashed a two-run homer off Sing Chow in the eighth inning to give Iolani a 2-0 win.

Waianae's Jasmine Choy just missed another no-hitter yesterday in an OIA game -- allowing just a fourth-inning hit in an 8-0 win over Waipahu. Choy also hit a home run.

Mililani beat Pearl City, 4-2, to take over sole possession of first place in the Western Division.

Basketball

Castle 54, Kaiser 51: Joel Botelho scored eight of his game-high 17 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Knights past the host Cougars yesterday in OIA boys' basketball.

Botelho, a 5-foot-7 junior guard, scored the Knights' final six points of the game on free throws, as the game see-sawed back and forth.

Kaiser led 32-31 going into the final quarter.

Eric Ching paced the Cougars with 16 points.

Leilehua 83, Waialua 44: The Mules mauled the host Bulldogs, with five players scoring in double-figures.

Leilehua jumped out to a 21-8 lead and never looked back.

Garland Gantt and Joshua Jumawan each scored 15 points and Ricardo Bachelor and Eric Marshall scored 14 for the Mules.

Mililani 64, Waipahu 46: Rashaun Broadus scored nine points in the second quarter to help the Trojans break open a close game.

Mililani outscored Waipahu, 20-5, in the second to take a 33-13 halftime lead.

William Broadus led the way with 22 points and Rashaun finished with 14.

Soccer

The Kalaheo boys' soccer team handed Kahuku its first loss of the season in the OIA.

Nathan Amous scored a pair of goals and Anthony Ornellas added another as the Mustangs topped the host Red Raiders, 3-1.

The Kahuku girls stayed unbeaten with a 2-0 win over Kalaheo.

Natasha Kai and Jasmine Ladao each scored for the Red Raiders (5-0-0), who play at Kaiser on Saturday in a battle for first place.

Kaiser (4-0-2) edged Kalani, 1-0, on a goal by Lacie Shimizu.

In the ILH, Punahou won its second consecutive match, beating previously undefeated Kamehameha, 1-0, on a Christopher Chandler goal.

The Buffanblu and Warriors are both 2-1-0.

Iolani (2-0-0) slipped into first place with a 3-1 victory over Pac-Five.
