A representative of Kam's Express Inc. said the company would not contest the order from the Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
Transporting of hazardous materials represented only a tiny portion of the company's business and was an operation it wanted to discontinue anyway, said the spokesman, who would not identify himself.
Lorraine Ehret, a spokeswoman for the federal agency, said the violations included not having random drug testing for drivers and using a driver before getting results from a pre-employment drug test.
The violations, which resulted in an unsatisfactory safety rating, did not relate to how hazardous materials actually were handled, Ehret said.
This is the second time in recent months that Kam's has been in the news. Thomas W.K. Kam and Herbert W.S. Kam, owners of Kam's Express, were charged this summer with more than 100 counts of failing to file tax returns and not paying to the state taxes withheld from employees' pay.
