Preseason honors
piling up for Komine

University of Nebraska pitcher Shane Komine is a 2001 Louisville Slugger preseason first-team All-American selection.

It's the second preseason honor for the former Kalani High School standout.

Louisville Slugger's first, second and third teams were chosen by the Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

Komine went 11-4 with a 2.24 ERA for the Cornhuskers, and was named the Big 12 Player of the Year last year. He also helped lead the team to the College World Series.

Previously, Komine was chosen as a first-team preseason All-American by Baseball America magazine.

Cyclists race at Kaneohe

Bicycle racers will compete in the seventh annual Headquarters Battalion Criterium speed bike heats at the Marine Corps Base at Kaneohe on Feb. 3 beginning at 11 a.m.

The event is open to the public, and contestants as young as 4 years old can enter.

The race will be held on a flat circuit with both left and right 90-degree turns

All participants must pass a bike safety inspection before the race.

Top performers in each of 10 categories will receive awards and prizes.
