BISMARCK, North Dakota -- Former University of Hawaii basketball player Marquette Alexander of the Dakota Wizards was suspended for the rest of the season by the International Basketball Association for slapping a fan during a Tuesday game against Billings, according to a story in the Bismarck Tribune yesterday.

Alexander was also fined $100 and must apologize in writing to the fan if he wants to return to the league, the report said.

"In our estimation (hitting a fan) is the worst thing any player, any official, any coach or anybody associated with the IBA can do," league president Paul Miller said.

This is the second time Alexander has scuffled with fans. Last season, while playing for the Rainbows, he was provoked into a fight with Fresno State fans, but was ultimately cleared of responsibility.
