Murakami, 64, suffered a "significant stroke" Nov. 2, according to a hospital spokesperson.
The coach of 30 years had a tracheotomy tube from his neck removed early last week, and is rehabilitating as an in-patient at Queen's.
Tovio in Hula Bowl
Farrington graduate Tavita Tovio will return to his home state to play his final college football game in the Hula Bowl at Kahului, Maui, on Jan. 20.Tovio, a defensive tackle from Honolulu, represents Southern Illinois University and is one of 10 Division I-AA athletes invited to play among the 90 chosen.
Tovio finished the 2000 season with 46 tackles (88 solo, 75 assists), 40 tackles for a loss, seven sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one interception in 11 games.
He earned Gateway All-Conference honors in all four years of his career, including a spot on the first team in his senior year.
Maui surfing contest
The Volcom Ho'okipa Surf Classic will take place Saturday and Sunday at Maui's Ho'okipa Beach Park.Alternate dates are Jan. 6-7 for the 11th annual contest, which honors the memory of Maui surfer Justin Roberson, who died at 19 in a 1989 auto accident after accepting a ride from a drunk driver.
