The senior from Elwood, Australia led Hawaii (9-2) to the Ala Moana Paradise Classic title, averaging 22.7 points, six rebounds, 3.5 assists and one steal per game in three straight victories.
Galloway connected on 22 of 39 field goals and shot 8-for-13 from three-point land. She was named MVP of the tournament.
Against Houston, Galloway matched her career-high in scoring with 31 points.
Galloway leads the WAC in scoring (19.5), is fifth in three-point percentage (.421), ninth in free throw percentage (.797) and 11th in rebounding (6.1).
Galloway was also named conference Player of the Week Dec. 11.
Kai commits to Wahine
Natasha Kai, a senior striker for Kahuku High School, has verbally committed to play soccer for the University of Hawaii Wahine next year.Kai, the Oahu Interscholastic Association East Division Player of the Year last season, made her decision known to UH head coach Pinsoom Tensing Saturday according to Red Raiders' head coach Randy Myers.
"Natasha scores the goals in the big games for us. She can shoot with either foot and is good with her head," Myers said.
Hodges joins applicants
Jack Hodges, a graduate of Kamehameha Schools and the current head coach at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, Calif., has joined the list of those applying for the head baseball coaching job at the University of Hawaii.Hodges graduated from Kamehameha in 1965, then played four years of baseball and two years of football at Stanford. After two years in the Kansas City Royals farm system, he began his teaching and coaching career.
He has a 289-178 record in 10 seasons as head coach at Saddleback.
Swim records set
Noa Sakamoto broke six state records at last week's State Short Course Age-Group Championship swim meet at Punahou School.The 14-year-old Sakamoto, representing Punahou Aquatics, set new marks in the 100-, 200-, 1,000- and 1,650-meter freestyle and 200- and 500-meter butterfly.
A total of 600 swimmers from 30 teams competed in the four-day meet at Waterhouse pool.
Mark Eckert, 14, broke five records and set new state marks in the 200 backstroke, and 200 and 400 individual medley. His two other records came in swims against Sakamoto where the two both broke the existing state times.
Hong Zhe Sun, 15, of Iolani also set five new state records in the 100 and 200 backstroke, 100 butterfly and 400 IM.
The Oahu Club Swim Team set two state records in the 200 and 400 freestyle relay. Members of the 12-year-old team were Yusuke Kobayashi, Nicholas Poole, CJ Paet and Denny Swart.
