The Royal Court files into Iolani Palace during this year's
Aloha Festival. The palace opens for evening tours this week
in celebration of Queen Kapi'olani's birthday.



Evening at the palace

Hundreds of lanterns will guide visitors to Iolani Palace Wednesday through Friday for the annual celebration of Queen Kapi'olani's Dec. 31 birthday.

The rare evening tours will last 15 minutes and include a walk through the rose-bedecked ground floor.

Musicians will entertain waiting visitors. Pa'ahana will play 5:45 to 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, followed by Van Diamond and Nalani Olds from 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. On Thursday, the Soundettes will play from 5:45 to 7:45 p.m., follwed by the 'Iolani Palace Ukulele Band from 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. On Friday, Pa'ahana as well as Van Diamond and Nalani Olds return, at the same times.

Tours are offered from 6 to 8:30 p.m. A $2 donation s suggested for adults. Must be 5 or older to enter the palace.
